This exhibition shows 20 tintype photographic portraits of members of the current local Cincinnati photo community. The studio Blue Creek Tinworks will feature these portraits by photographer Alex Lippert, who specializes in natural light outdoor tintypes and portraits.

The exhibition also includes photographic reproductions from the archives of Cincinnati Art Club’s 135-year history. Artist Members have manipulated images by hand coloring, photo editing, embroidery and mixed media. Also, the Art Academy of Cincinnati Alumni are showing sizable images of local scenes. By exhibiting these groups of artists together this exhibition provides not only an overview of the current photographic community but a ‘long view’ back and forward, placing the present in a continuum of possibilities.

Tintype Photography–

…Also known as ferrotypes or melainotypes, is an early photographic process that creates unique, one-of-a-kind positive images on a thin metal plate. Invented in the 1850s, it involves coating a metal plate with a light-sensitive emulsion, exposing it in a camera, and developing it, all done by hand and on-site. The resulting image, though technically a negative, appears positive due to the dark background of the metal plate.
